MRI Review: Identifying Subscapularis Tears
✅ Understanding Rotator Cuff Anatomy
- Subscapularis Tendon: Attaches to the lesser tuberosity, just anterior to the long head of the biceps tendon (LHB).
- Greater Tuberosity: Divided into three facets—superior, middle, and inferior. Supraspinatus has a smaller footprint than previously believed; much of this area is occupied by the infraspinatus tendon.
✅ Case Review
- Finding: Partial tear of the superior third of the subscapularis tendon (undersurface tear).
- Typical Location: Superior-lateral edge, often progressing inferiorly.
✅ Why This Matters
- Early detection is essential as these injuries can progress and impair shoulder function.
- Sagittal imaging is particularly helpful for confirming the tear’s presence and extent.
