Knee MRI/Meniscus

[Anatomy_14] Lateral Meniscus Posterior Root - 02

by MSK MRI 2021. 9. 24.

PRLM has two attachment sites of intertubercular region and posterior slope of lateral tubercle.

This image shows an intercondylar crest insertion component among the two attachment sites.

The PRLM inserts mainly in the intertubercular area.

It is delineated on MRI as a dark signal line parallel to the tibial plateau on mid-sagittal images  with an oblique course and longer length than other roots.

The anterior end is just posterior to the tibial attachment of the anterior cruciate ligament.

Relative to the medial meniscus, the posterior root attachment of the lateral meniscus is more diverse and complex.

On the posterior root of medial meniscus, When visualized on coronal images, the posterior root appears as a band of low signal intensity with parallel sides that attaches to the tibia behind the tibial eminence either horizontally or with an inferiorly directed band.

It's not a real patient's MRI, but they are virtual images very similar to the images in the journals. The images will be created for educational purposes.
