1. Diagnostic Criteria for Morton Neuroma
To diagnose Morton neuroma, consider the following three MR imaging criteria:
- The lesion is centered in the neurovascular bundle on the plantar aspect of the intermetatarsal space.
- The lesion is well-demarcated.
- Its signal intensity is similar to skeletal muscle on T1-weighted images and less than fat on T2-weighted images.
2. Common Sites and Clinical Relevance
- The 3rd web space (between the 3rd and 4th metatarsal heads) is the most commonly affected site.
- The 2nd web space is less frequently involved, while the other web spaces are rarely affected.
- Symptomatic lesions tend to be larger. Lesions measuring >5 mm are highly likely to cause symptoms.
