The posterosuperior popliteomeniscal fascicle forms the roof of the popliteus hiatus, extending from the posterosuperior margin of the lateral meniscus to the posterior capsule.
The anteroinferior popliteomeniscal fascicle is a coronary ligament, which forms the floor of the popliteus hiatus.
As the popliteus tendon passes laterally, it passes beneath the posterosuperior fascicle and above the anteroinferior fascicle
The normal deficiency of the inferior popliteomeniscal fascicle (to accommodate the passage of the popliteus tendon) occurs at the location medial to the body of the lateral meniscus.
Disruption of the popliteomeniscal fascicles may result in increased meniscal motion at the hiatus with hypermobility of the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus.
Tear of the posterosuperior fascicle is highly associated with tears involving the posterior horn of the lateral meniscus
It's not a real patient's MRI, but they are virtual images very similar to the images in the journals. The images will be created for educational purposes.
