Arthroscopic Classification of Meniscal Root Tears: Type 2

Sagittal Ghost Sign:

  • This sign is characterized by a hyperintense white signal intensity that leads to the disappearance or abrupt blunting of the normal low-signal-intensity meniscus tissue. It is typically observed on a sagittal image.

Axial Radial Defect Sign:

  • The axial radial defect sign presents as a linear, radially oriented hyperintense signal on an axial image.

Coronal Cleft Sign:

  • The coronal cleft sign manifests as a vertically oriented linear or cleft-like hyperintense signal on a coronal image.

Giraffe Neck Sign

  • The "Giraffe Neck Sign" refers to a trapezoidal shape of the meniscal body, characterized by a thin inner margin and a larger outer margin. This sign has been recently identified as an indicator of medial meniscus posterior root tears.
