📌Transtibial Pullout Repair 📌

• Detachment of Posterior Root:

A detached posterior root of the meniscus is functionally equivalent to a total meniscectomy, leading to a significant loss in the meniscus’s ability to withstand hoop stress. This condition severely compromises the knee’s structural integrity and function.

• Association with Osteoarthritis:

Root tears are closely associated with a heightened risk of developing osteoarthritis. This association underscores the importance of addressing root tears promptly to mitigate further degenerative changes in the joint.

• Evidence on Meniscal Extrusion:

Recent evidence suggests that a decrease in meniscal extrusion may be directly correlated with improved clinical outcomes. This finding highlights the potential benefits of interventions that reduce extrusion to enhance patient recovery and prognosis.

• Criteria for Intact Repair:

An intact meniscal root repair is characterized by continuous root integrity and the absence of T2 hyperintensity extending to the articular surface. These criteria serve as critical indicators for assessing the success of a transtibial pullout repair procedure.
