๐Ÿ“Œ Preoperative Imaging and Meniscal Sizing:

  • Precise meniscal sizing is crucial for meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) success.
  • A mismatch in graft size should be less than 10% to maintain the meniscus's biomechanical integrity.
  • โœ… Specifically, too small allografts (beyond a 5-mm margin of error) can jeopardize long-term functionality and mechanical durability due to excessive biomechanical load.
  • โœ… Conversely, oversized allografts may also compromise biomechanical function and potentially damage the articular cartilage.

๐Ÿ“Œ Graft Failure in MAT:

  • Graft failure can manifest as displacement of the allograft meniscus body, resembling a "bucket-handle" tear on MRI scans.
  • โœ… Factors contributing to failure include improper healing of the allograft menisci and inadequate revascularization, which may lead to graft shrinkage.
