📌 Excessive Remodeling of Non-Resurfaced Patella in TKA
- The non-resurfaced patella becomes exposed to the metallic surface of the femoral component after TKA.
- Excessive remodeling can cause anterior knee pain
✅ Adaptation Process
- Also known as stress contouring
- Produces gradual adaptation of the retropatellar surface and subchondral bone plate to the trochlear shape
- Due to differences in the modulus of elasticity
- The articular surface of the patella must adapt to the geometry of the opposing surface
