A. Lateral collateral ligament complex
1. Anterior Talofibular Ligament (ATFL)
a) •lateral malleolus의 anterior margin에서 앞으로 진행하여 talus neck의 lateral aspect로 수평으로 이어진다. •대부분 두 개의 fascicle로 구성되어 있어 저신호강도의 삼각형 혹은 편평한 띠로 보이거나 나누어진 띠로 보인다
⬧ The ATFL extends anteromedially from the anterior margin of the fibular malleolus to the talus, attached inferior of its lateral articular facet and to the lateral aspect of its neck
⬧ The ATFL runs from the lateral malleolus anteriorly to the lateral border of the talus.
⬧ It has a transverse orientation and is best seen on axial images.
⬧ This is the most commonly injured ligament of the ankle and it is also the first to be injured on the lateral side.
2. Calcaneofibular Ligament (CFL)
◼ The CFL lies deep in relation to peroneal tendons and extends from lateral malleolar tip to trochlear eminence, stabilizing both the tibiotalar and subtalar joints.
◼ The CFL runs from the depression anterior to the apex of the fibular malleolus to a tubercle on the lateral calcaneal surface crossed by fibularis longus and brevis
◼ The CFL is best appreciated on axial and coronal images.
3. Posterior Talofibular Ligament (PTFL)
a) 인대 사이에 비균질한 지방 때문에 부채꼴 모양의 줄무늬 띠로 보인다.
⬧ The PTFL runs horizontally from the distal part of the lateral malleolar fossa to the lateral tubercle of the posterior talar process a tibial slip of fibers connects it to the medial malleolus
⬧ Posterior talofibular is least frequently injured of three lateral complex ligaments, extending from posterior talus (lateral tubercle) to fibular malleolar fossa.
⬧ Posterior talofibular often appears striated on MRI because of its fibrofatty composition
