PRLM has two attachment sites of the posterior slope of the lateral tubercle (1st coronal image) and intertubercular region (other coronal images).
- major component:
intertubercular area, anterior extension into medial tubercle along the intertubercular crest, just posteromedial to tibial attachment of anterior cruciate ligament (; ACL)
PRLM attaches mainly on the intertubercular area, with a thin, long ventral extension to the point just posteromedial to tibial attachment of ACL, and sometimes appeared as a dark signal line parallel to the tibial plateau on the midsagittal image.
On mid-sagittal images, the PRLM appears as a dark signal line parallel to the tibial plateau, and on coronal images, it appears as a dark signal focus traversing the intertubercular crest on four or more contiguous images

The PRLM appears as shorter striated fibers similar to other roots of menisci.
