  • Type of Tear: Longitudinal Tear
  • Characteristics:
    • Runs perpendicular to the tibial plateau.
    • Runs parallel to the long axis of the meniscus.
    • This is commonly seen in younger patients following knee trauma.
    • There is a notable association between peripheral longitudinal tears and ACL tears. Specifically, 90% of Medial Meniscus (MM) and 83% of Lateral Meniscus (LM) peripheral longitudinal tears are accompanied by an ACL tear.
  • MRI Findings:
    • Presence of a vertical line of increased signal intensity contacting the meniscus's superior, inferior, or both surfaces.
    • Does not involve the free edge of the meniscus, unlike horizontal or radial tears.
  • Common Location:
    • Typically, it involves the posterior horn in both medial and lateral menisci.
