✅ Chronic Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) Injuries

➡️ Chronic MCL Imaging Findings

  • Thickening of ligament
  • Waviness of fibers
  • Discontinuity
  • increased signal
  • Absence of subcutaneous edema/soft tissue swelling seen in acute injuries

➡️ Importance of Recognizing Chronic Injuries

  • Can lead to progressive degenerative changes and loss of function
  • May require surgical treatment for symptomatic lesions

➡️ Acute Complete MCL Tears

  • Can propagate anteriorly or posteriorly to involve medial patellofemoral and posterior oblique ligaments
  • May show concomitant tears of meniscofemoral ligament (deep MCL)
