📌Magic Angle Artifact in MRI Imaging

The magic angle effect occurs due to the specific angulation of the anterior arm of the tendon when the knee is extended.

This positioning can result in a focal area of high signal intensity on MRI images.

✅ This artifact is most commonly observed in sequences with short echo time (TE), such as:

  • T1-weighted imaging
  • Proton density-weighted imaging
  • Gradient echo sequences

✅To avoid this artifact, sequences with a longer TE, such as T2-weighted imaging, are recommended.

These sequences help minimize the appearance of the magic angle effect by accommodating the specific angular dependencies.
