📌 Trapped Periosteum in Pediatric Proximal Tibial Physeal Injuries
- MRI guides surgical planning when conventional reduction fails, potentially improving outcomes.
✅ MRI Findings of Trapped Periosteum:
- widening of proximal tibial physis
- Enfolded periosteum in widened tibial physis
- Low signal intensity of trapped periosteum in growth plate
✅Benefits of MRI:
- Evaluates menisci, ligaments, and articular cartilage
- Assesses non-ossified epiphyses
- Detects osteonecrosis and bony bridging
- Identifies mechanical obstructions to the reduction
- Visualizes periarticular structures (nerves, vessels, tendons, muscles)
✅ Type IV Fractures
- Type IV fractures present with fracture extension from the tibial tuberosity through the proximal tibial physis into the posterior tibial metaphyseal cortex.
