📌 Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

  • Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has grown in popularity over the past decade as an alternative to conventional TKA.

📌 Complications Associated with Robotic-Assisted TKA

  • Robotic-assisted TKA has been associated with complications that are distinct from those encountered with conventional TKA.
  • One category of complication is associated with the pins used to mount the robotic tracking system.
  • These pin insertion sites present potential sites of complications, serving as a nidus for infection and/or fracture.

✅ Fracture Through Tracking Pin Sites

A specific complication is the fracture through tracking pin sites following a robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty.

The risk factors for these fractures include:

  • Multiple placement attempts
  • Transcortical pin trajectory
  • Pin diameter greater than 4 mm
  • Diaphyseal placement
