📌 Excessive Remodeling of Non-Resurfaced Patella in TKA

  • The non-resurfaced patella becomes exposed to the metallic surface of the femoral component after TKA.
  • Excessive remodeling can cause anterior knee pain

✅ Adaptation Process

  • Also known as stress contouring
  • Produces gradual adaptation of the retropatellar surface and subchondral bone plate to the trochlear shape
  • Due to differences in the modulus of elasticity
  • The articular surface of the patella must adapt to the geometry of the opposing surface
