★ ACL Assessment on Coronal Images ★
Increased Accuracy:
Utilizing the coronal plane for assessing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) proves to be more accurate than the sagittal plane, aiding in the distinction between partial and complete ACL tears.
📌 Key Observations:
1️⃣ Abnormal ACL Indicators:
On T1- or PD-weighted coronal images, abnormal ACL fibers may display intermediate signal intensity, potentially coupled with a loss of fiber striation. This assessment should be conducted in the same coronal plane as the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) at the point where the femoral condyles merge and span the intercondylar roof.
2️⃣ Normal ACL Visibility:
A normal ACL should be identifiable on at least one coronal image posterior to the MCL level, aligning with the same coronal plane as the MCL.
3️⃣ Fluid Signal Intensity:
The absence of fluid signal intensity between the ACL fibers and the femoral attachment site is essential for a normal ACL assessment.
