📌Pes Anserinus Bursitis
Pes anserinus bursitis refers to inflammation of the bursa located deep to the conjoined tendons (pes anserinus) on the medial aspect of the knee.
✅ Anatomic Considerations
- Bursa does not communicate with knee joint cavity
- Located deep to semitendinosus, gracilis, and sartorius tendons
- Most frequently distal to joint line along distal superficial MCL and tibial metaphysis
✅ Etiology
- Associated with athletic activity
- Degenerative arthritis
✅ Imaging Findings
- Increased bursal fluid
- Thickened bursal wall
- Surrounding edema
- Abnormal enhancement
- Septated fluid collection with bursa superficial to MCL, deep to sartorius/gracilis tendons
★ Anatomic Note
- Sartorius enveloped by crural fascia layer 1
- Gracilis/semitendinosus between layers 1 and 2
- Gracilis tendon within septated fluid, sartorius more superficial
