📌 The Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Complex
✅ Primary Structure: The Medial Patellofemoral Ligament
- Superior transverse portion from osseous groove between medial femoral epicondyle and adductor tubercle
- Oblique decussation portion from proximal superficial medial collateral ligament
- Two portions combine and insert onto medial patella
✅ Secondary Medial Stabilizers
1️⃣ Medial Quadriceps Tendon Femoral Ligament
- Proximal to Medial Patellofemoral Ligament
- Oblique fibers insert into distal quadriceps tendon
- Contributes to stability in extension
2️⃣ Medial Patellomeniscal Ligament
- Inserts into medial meniscus and distal patella pole
- Seen as taut band in third layer of medial retinaculum
- Typically inserts into anterior meniscal horn
3️⃣ Medial Patellotibial Ligament
- Inserts into proximal tibia and distal patella pole
Patellar Insertions
- Medial Patellotibial and Patellomeniscal may join or one insert proximal to the other
Tibial Insertion of Medial Patellotibial Ligament
- At palpable medial tibial tubercle bony ridge
- 5mm distal to joint line on radiographs
