✅ Vastus Muscles and Oblique Fibers:

  • The vastus medialis and vastus lateralis muscles have angled fibers called vastus medialis obliquus and vastus lateralis obliquus.
  • These fibers attach to the sides of the patella, helping it stay on track during knee movements.
  • The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is a band under the vastus medialis obliquus, stabilizing the patella.

✅ Complex Anatomy of Vastus Medialis:

  • The vastus medialis muscle is more complex than it seems.
  • It attaches to the patella and quadriceps tendon, and has significant insertions along the aponeurosis of the vastus intermedius muscle.
  • This insertion has two parts: a strong front part and a weaker back part.
  • Parts of the vastus intermedius muscle also attach to the patella.
  • The vastus medialis consists of multiple muscle units at different angles, not just one uniform muscle.

✅ Tensor of Vastus Intermedius (TVI):

  • The TVI is situated between the vastus lateralis and vastus intermedius.
  • It starts as a muscle and then forms a broad, flat tendon that merges with the quadriceps tendon, attaching to the medial side of the patella.
