✅ Vastus Muscles and Oblique Fibers:
- The vastus medialis and vastus lateralis muscles have angled fibers called vastus medialis obliquus and vastus lateralis obliquus.
- These fibers attach to the sides of the patella, helping it stay on track during knee movements.
- The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is a band under the vastus medialis obliquus, stabilizing the patella.
✅ Complex Anatomy of Vastus Medialis:
- The vastus medialis muscle is more complex than it seems.
- It attaches to the patella and quadriceps tendon, and has significant insertions along the aponeurosis of the vastus intermedius muscle.
- This insertion has two parts: a strong front part and a weaker back part.
- Parts of the vastus intermedius muscle also attach to the patella.
- The vastus medialis consists of multiple muscle units at different angles, not just one uniform muscle.
✅ Tensor of Vastus Intermedius (TVI):
- The TVI is situated between the vastus lateralis and vastus intermedius.
- It starts as a muscle and then forms a broad, flat tendon that merges with the quadriceps tendon, attaching to the medial side of the patella.
