📌 Deep Infrapatellar Bursitis

Overview

  • Deep infrapatellar bursitis is an inflammation of the deep infrapatellar bursa, a wedge-shaped, synovium-lined structure located in the anteroinferior knee.
  • This bursa does not communicate with the knee joint cavity.
  • The condition is commonly seen in individuals engaged in overuse sports activities, particularly runners and jumpers.

✅ Various causes of Deep Infrapatellar Bursitis

  • Overuse sports injuries (commonly seen in runners and jumpers)
  • Active Osgood-Schlatter disease
  • Gout
  • Sepsis
  • Hemorrhage
  • Fat pad contracture

✅  Clinical Presentation

  • Patients with deep infrapatellar bursitis typically present with pain and tenderness at the tibial tuberosity.
  • The condition is often characterized by localized swelling and discomfort, especially during physical activity.
