★ MR Grade 2 Signal Intensity ★

1️⃣ General Description

  • Horizontal, linear intrasubstance signal increases from the meniscus's capsular periphery without reaching an articular surface.
  • Lacks a distinct cleavage plane or tear.
  • Typically asymptomatic in patients.
  • Not a prognostic indicator for advancing to grade 3 signal intensity.

✅ Grade 2C Signal

  • Extensive triangular or wedge-shaped signals on multiple MRI images do not reach the meniscal surface.
  • Low incidence (1.5%), with a 50% chance of indicating a tear.
  • Surgical treatment is usually not recommended, except for discoid menisci.

2️⃣ MRI Findings of Discoid Meniscus

✅ Characteristics

  • Thick grade 2 signal intensity on sagittal images indicates mucinous degeneration.
  • Meniscectomy is often recommended for symptomatic cases, even without grade 3 signal intensity.
