📌 Normal Quadriceps Tendon Appearance

  • Distinctive laminated or trilaminar appearance on sagittal MR images
  • Layered configuration with low-signal intensity tendinous bands separated by linear interdigitating fat
  • Normal trilaminar appearance should not be mistaken for tendinosis

📌 Quadriceps Tendinosis Findings

  • Tendon thickening and linear hyperintensity
  • Edema within the fat between the layers of the quadriceps tendon
  • Edema of the quadriceps fat pad associated with distal quadriceps tendinosis

✅Epidemiology and Associated Factors

  • Less common than patellar tendinosis
  • Associated with chronic underlying systemic diseases and/or drug use
  • Repetitive microtrauma, such as in jumping sports
  • Calcific tendinosis of the quadriceps tendon (less common)
